Kindle Daily Deal: Cold Water Crossing, by David Faxon. Publisher: Create Space; 3 edition (January 5, 2009)Cold Water Crossing by David Faxon -- A confluence of events beginning on March 5th, 1873, resulted in the murders of two women and brought national attention to the Maine/NH seacoast area. By mid day of Thursday, the 6th, word reached Portsmouth police that an atrocity had taken place on one of the islands, called Smuttynose. A group of fishermen from the Isles of Shoals were stunned with disbelief and rambling in heavily accented English when they broke the news to authorities. Two of their own were brutally murdered. The killer could still be out there on the small cluster of islands or had somehow made it back to Portsmouth in a dory on a very cold night. He had to be caught and, what’s more, they knew who did it. Police Chief Thomas Entwhistle calmed the men and slowly began to piece the story together. The murders of Karen and Anethe Christensen by a Prussian immigrant who rowed ten miles to their deserted island, stirred controversy when it happened and continues to do so today. Cold Water Crossing sheds new light on that event and brings to life, the tragedy of one Norwegian immigrant family. Kindle Daily Deal: On Bear Mountain, by Deborah Smith. Publisher: Bell Bridge Books (August 9, 2010)On Bear Mountain by Deborah Smith -- Dirt-poor, sensitive as poets, and proud as kings, the Powell family has lived on a Georgia mountaintop for generations. Then, during the 1960’s, young Ursula Powell’s father convinces the Tiber family, owners everything in nearby Tiberville, to commission a huge iron sculpture of a bear for the town. Decades later the strange sculpture – rejected by the townspeople and left to rust on the Powell farm – symbolizes a family’s failure and thwarted dreams. But, unknown to Ursula, it is now worth such a huge fortune that the artist’s embittered son, Quentin Ricconni, is coming to reclaim it . . . and to change everything Ursula believes about the past, the choices that break a heart, and the redeeming powers of art and love. Photo credit: nanekiWomen over 40 DO NOT have a higher risk for Down's Syndrome babies. That statistic is skewed.

The risk is higher for Down's babies with a FIRST pregnancy and since in the last 20 years a greater majority of women were choosing to put off having babies until in their 40's all of a sudden the instances of Down's babies over the age of 40 increased drastically!

But it wasn't women in general over 40 having babies...it was STILL first pregnancies with the high risk - it just so happened that many more of these first pregnancies were occurring over age 40.

Thus the stats changed but were never explained accurately.

Photo credit: madlynI hate to confess it, but lately I've just been SOOOO tired and worn out. I recall the same thing when I was pregnant with my first in 2004.

Not to complain, I know that this too, will pass, and that "they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength..."

My due date is February 26, right before my 45th birthday, and I'm now in my 10th week.

I am 44 and due on 4/10/07... only six weeks along right now, but my first ultrasound looked good this week!

I have a 19 year old son, an 18 year old daughter and an 11 year old step-son. All siblings are very excited about this upcoming birth!

I will be 45 at delivery but am at complete peace with this pregnancy as I know it is all in God's hands. My husband and I were not expecting this at all, but we are feeling truly blessed and excited beyond belief!

I'm glad I found this site as it is very encouraging... Thank You!

I'm 44 on September 6th and found out last Wednesday that I'm pregnant with my first baby. Baby is due May 3/07 according to internet.

First Doctor's appt. is on September 20th. I'm a little afraid due to all the statistics, but I believe God gave us this blessing and I'm going to stay positive.

I was glad to find a place for my age to post where God is glorified. Hubby and I got married last year. He has a 19 year old daughter having her first baby in December!

This is my first marriage and first pregnancy.

Hey, I conceived twins at 42! And then another baby at 44.

I'll soon be 47, and no sign of another one yet. I'm thinking things might be winding down here. And that's okay. I've been blessed beyond my wildest dreams!

Never did I imagine have four babies in my 40's!

I know a woman who had twins at 50 using her own eggs! She was the talk of DC back in 1994... however, they needed some assistance (drugs).

I think some people can produce good eggs much later in life, but not most. And this woman smoked when she was younger, although she was very healthy and not overweight.
